The Honest Truth
[Tribute Album for Cancer Patient...UNIQUE!]
Available in AI, KNK, GSD, EPS, SVG and 300dpi Bitmap
(C) Paper Piecings and Album designed by Scrapbookcircus

Details: ('Cause it's all about the little things!)
This album was an incredible challenge to create...my intent was to design something to acknowledge this theme from as positive a perspective as possible...and even convey a little humor. While I realize that this is a serious subject, I approached this project keeping these thoughts in mind: A small amount of laughter can take the sting out of the worst situation, and science has proven that a patient with a positive attitude has a better chance of surviving Cancer than one who focuses on fear and despair. If I had to walk this path myself, this is exactly what I would have created to mark my journey.

I created this book by specific request and it has been a few years since I made the original. I recently recreated the design in AI, EPS, KNK, GSD and SVG formats so that it could be cut using a digital die cutter. The GSD is only included as separated pieces---it's a huge file, it was a lot of work, and whether this is the format you require or not, I highly recommend that you print a copy of the bitmap or the jpg to make assembly less of a challenge. Printable areas (text and storyline) are included in the zip and should be printed on transparency or vellum, cardstock, or incorporated as you wish. The 300dpi Bitmap included is suitable for digital file formats, and also serves as a reference for assembly. The files have been designed originally in KNK format. It has been fully test cut and assembled several times at the size provided. The pieces fit 7x7 albums or larger...I do not recommend cutting the file smaller, as there are many detailed parts. Reproducing at smaller sizes will likely make some of these pieces too fragile to cut.
Cut on the KNK, I used a Speed of 150, Force/pressure 83, Overcut 25, Trailing blade 5, Bazzill Cardstock (I prefer Canvas and Orange Peel textures), Cricut mat, Pazzles blade...1 pass on a 15" KNK.

I genuinely hope you can NOT use this file. Cancer represents something that we all fear, yet in a sense...when I created this...I embraced something that none of us willingly embrace. Although I do not intend to sell the file or profit personally in any sense, I would like the effort to support those who need it most. Whether this means by donation to support the cause or by creating something for someone who will use it, fundraising or other purposes, I would simply like it to have a purpose. For this reason, I am not making this file available for immediate or free download. I support private use for fundraising activities and will share this file freely for these purposes, but the file itself must NEVER be sold, and may only be acquired from myself personally or at www.thatsscrapinc.com. I prefer to send personally to those who have supported the cause by donating $25 or more to the Susan G Komen foundation here: Donate to Support Susan G. Komen Foundation. Proof of your contribution should NOT include your financial information and can be a screenshot or emailed in receipt form to That's Scrap Inc or Scrapbookcircus. A link to download the file will be sent to the contact address supplied. In the scans thumbnailed above, you'll find the previews which accompanied the fundraising auction a few years ago; these scans are older and do not represent the updated files previewed below, but they should be useful for anyone who wishes to recreate this book.

This design incorporates 16 pages and features 7 original character piecings. It is presented in "storybook" format-- each page presents a paragraph and a piecing that relates to the story. The text is preformatted to accompany each segment and can be fit to print on two sheets of 8.5x11" paper, transparencies, or vellum to complement the pieces.

THE HONEST TRUTH:

Well...I was on my way to the Amazon when the engine on the plane quit. I had to parachute out over the jungle and watched the plane go down in flames, so that's why I'm sitting here looking kind of scared. (1st image: parachute and plane)

THEN...my parachute caught on a tree and I spent hours climbing up the side of the cliff, clutching at rocks and vines to inch my way to safety. And that's why my hands are still kind of shaky. (2nd image: parachute stuck in tree)

FINALLY...I reached the top of the cliff, only to be captured by hostile pygmies wearing leopard loincloths! They thought I was a God because I'd fallen from the sky. I was imprisoned and they worshiped me by offering precious furs, jewels and offerings. They didn't realize that I was hungry until they brought the sacrificial lamb several weeks later. So that's why I'm so pale and I lost so much weight. They were starving me! (3rd image: climbing up cliff)

(4th image: middle of book with no text, insert grumpy aboriginal guy.)

YEP...you guessed it...when they realized that I wasn't a God after all...(probably after I asked for Mint sauce to go with the lamb)...They were pretty mad. I guess they felt pretty foolish for making such a serious mistake. I forgive them for scalping me. That's why I don't have any hair. (5th image: survivor clutching sheep)

AFTER I escaped the pygmies, I stumbled through the jungle for a few days. I finally found a river, and everyone knows that if you follow a river downstream you'll eventually find more people! So I swam all the way home. Boy, that water was cold. That's why I'm usually sitting around with my cozy blanket...I still feel a little chilled thinking about it. (6th image: clinging to log in river.)

Pretty COOL, huh? I've led the most amazing life! It's the honest truth! (And that's why Cancer is for SURVIVORS. Not everyone can do this kind of thing, you know.) (7th image: snoring in chair.)

The text and content in this album are completely original. This album would make a wonderful inspirational and sentimental gift for the right person or family. The humor is gentle and presented with a positive, thoughtful objective. Given the subject, I honestly can't say that I hope that you've got the perfect pictures for this album. Unfortunately, Cancer is something that affects more people than we realize: everyone I meet knows someone who has either been affected by or dealt with this disease. As before, my blessings and prayers go out to Janet, and her sister Debbie, who inspired more than prayers and this gift several years ago.
